One Step Closer to Cruising

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued an industry-wide framework for cruises to begin sailing again. This is a positive and important step toward allowing cruise lines to demonstrate how their new health and safety protocols will make cruising one of the safest vacation options.

There is still a lot the cruise lines are working through, and they're committed to taking the time to do things right. This includes training their crew on new guidelines, and conducting trial sailings before welcoming guests back on board.

Cruising with confidence means that your Vacation Specialist is here for you before, during and after your vacation. With our Cruise Fare Watch tool, we automatically monitor the price of your cruise and are alerted if the price drops so we can look into saving you money or getting you an upgrade.

Canada Update: On February 4, 2021, Canadian government announced that it is prohibiting cruise vessels carrying 100 or more people until February 28, 2022.

CRUISING CONTINUES TO BE ONE OF THE SAFEST WAYS TO TRAVEL

The cruise lines have spent many months working with leaders in public safety, biosecurity, epidemiology, hospitality, and maritime operations to create a plan for the safe return of cruising. Their recommendations have been adopted by the Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) as the blueprint to follow for the global cruising community. The cruise industry has become the first in the travel sector to commit to 100% testing of passengers and crew worldwide.

New health and safety measures you can expect include:

  • 100% testing of all passengers and crew, and a negative COVID-19 test result mandated before boarding
  • Enhanced sanitation and ventilation upgrades, and masks in use when social distancing isn't possible
  • Additional medical facilities, equipment, and staff on board

A different – but still fun – cruise experience:
While health and safety is the top priority, your cruise experience should still be fun! The cruise lines are also working hard to ensure you can enjoy the same experiences, just in a modified way.

Some modifications you can expect include:

  • Reduced capacity on board and inside specific venues (less crowds!)
  • Shore excursions run by the cruise line (to limit exposure to third parties)
  • Served buffets (who doesn't like to be served?)
  • Virtual muster drills (so much better than before!)

In addition, we know our customers have questions about their upcoming cruise and want to share the latest cruise line policy updates that provide options and flexibility should you want to reschedule your vacation. Check back for the latest Coronavirus Updates and Advisories as they become available.

In an abundance of caution, there have been several voluntary travel suspensions and port closures. Many cruise lines have increased their safety protocols with health screenings and travel history precautions. Please contact your Vacation Specialist who can help keep you informed with important travel information.

Crystal Cruises

Crystal has voluntarily paused operations through May 2021 for our River fleet with cancellations into June for our Ocean ships, through August 1 for Crystal Esprit and through August for Crystal Endeavor.

Like our guests, the Crystal team is eagerly looking forward to the resumption of service for our fleet of Ocean, River, Yacht and upcoming Expedition ship later this year. With this in mind, and according to the latest scientific data and expert guidance, we have made the decision that guests must be fully inoculated with a COVID-19 vaccine (with both doses if recommended by the manufacturer) at least 14 days prior to boarding any Crystal ship and will be asked to provide proof of vaccination before embarkation. The new requirement is in addition to existing Crystal Clean+ 4.0 measures, including negative COVID-19 tests and health screening questionnaires.

Cunard Line

As you may be aware, the UK Government has recently confirmed that travel will be opened up for domestic vacations at first, and over time we'll gradually see the return of international travel. However, with international ports opening up later than hoped, unfortunately, we will be extending our pause in operations.

  • Sailings on Queen Victoria® are now canceled for departures up to and including August 27, 2021.
  • We are canceling Queen Elizabeth's summer Mediterranean season and all departures up to and including October 11, 2021.
  • For Queen Mary 2®, there are a number of factors affecting her current program and after careful consideration we are canceling all departures up to and including November 12, 2021.

We have (temporarily) stopped selling all cruises eight days and longer which call upon a U.S. port and depart January 1 through November 1, 2021.

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line is extending its suspension of all departures through May 2021 and Disney Magic sailings through August 10. Additionally, in light of the Canadian government's announcement that they will not allow ships with more than 100 passengers to dock in any Canadian port until February 28, 2022, we are evaluating various options for the Disney Wonder's scheduled season in Alaska. Once a decision is made, we will reach out to Guests booked on these sailings. Based on the conditional sail order provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Disney Cruise Line must also cancel sailings longer than 7 nights.

Holland America Line

As Holland America Line continues to prepare and develop its plans to meet the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the company is extending its pause of cruise operations for all departures through April 30, 2021. This includes Alaska, Mexican Riviera, Pacific Coast, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Canada/New England departures. In addition, all Alaska cruises through mid-May, Alaska departures on three ships through early June, any Land+Sea Journeys connected with canceled Alaska sailings, Mediterranean cruises through early June and Zaandam's Canada/New England itineraries through August. The line also will cancel select longer voyages, and cruises of eight days or longer that call in the United States until Nov. 1, 2021.

We are extending our pause of European cruise operations to include 10 cruises departing through June 30, 2021. Cruises canceled by this pause are:

  • Nieuw Statendam: Eight departures from May 2 through June 27, 2021, that include seven- and 14-day Norway and Baltic itineraries, as well as the 14- and 21-day Collectors' Voyages of those cruises.
  • Volendam: June 19, 2021, 14-day Adriatic Dream cruise and the 24-day Adriatic Dream and Greek Odyssey Collectors' Voyage departing the same date.
  • Westerdam: June 19, 2021, 12-day Greece and Adriatic Antiquities cruise and the 24-day Adriatic Antiquities and Mediterranean Romance Collectors' Voyage departing the same date.

Canada Update: As Holland America Line continues to review and assess its plans around the Canadian Transport Ministry's Interim Order that closed Canadian ports and waters to passenger vessels, the company has made the difficult decision to extend its pause of cruise operations to include all sailings that depart from or conclude in a Canadian port in 2021. This will include Alaska Land + Sea Journeys, Canada/New England and Pacific Coastal cruises in summer and fall of this year.

  • Update On Mediterranean and Northern Europe Cruises: While MSC Grandiosa continues to sail successfully in the Mediterranean - and will soon be joined by MSC Seaside from May 1, 2021 - with significant travel restrictions in place, we have canceled bookings for U.S. clients booked on both of these ships through June 3, 2021. In addition, due to the delay in the return to availability of certain ports across Europe, we are canceling all other itineraries in the West Mediterranean for April and May 2021 as well as all itineraries in the East Mediterranean and Northern Europe for April 2021.

Princess Cruises

While we continue to work with government and port authorities to finalize the plan for our return to cruising, Princess is extending its pause of cruise vacations sailing the Caribbean, California Coast, Mexico and the Mediterranean through June 30, 2021.

Following the recent UK Government announcement on the roadmap to ease lockdown and related international travel restrictions, we have cancelled UK-based guest cruise vacations, sailing roundtrip from Southampton, through September 25, 2021 on Sky Princess, Regal Princess and Island Princess. For UK guests, Princess Cruises will launch a series of new short cruises departing in late summer on Regal Princess and Sky Princess.

As we continue to review and understand the implications of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) "Framework for Conditional Sailing Order" for resumption of U.S. cruise operations, we have made the decision to extend our pause in cruise operations due to a temporary seven-day limit on itineraries that touch a U.S. port and the estimated preparation time needed for completing required activities prior to resuming our operations. As a result, we have cancelled the following cruises:

  • All cruises longer than seven days sailing in and out of United States ports through November 1, 2021
  • A small number of other cruises that will no longer be commercially feasible
  • Additionally, due to the uncertainty about when international travel restrictions might be lifted, Princess Cruises is extending its pause in operations for cruises departing in and out of Japan through June 25, 2021

Canada Update: As we continue to review and assess our operations as a result of the Canadian Transport Ministry's Interim Order that extends the closure of Canadian waters to passenger vessels, we have cancelled the following voyages:

Cruise with Confidence

To allot additional time to continue our work with the CDC and government authorities, the decision has been made to further extend our operational pause through May 31, 2021. Additionally, Spectrum's China sailings departing April 3-25, 2021 have also been cancelled. Itineraries excluded from this announcement (unimpacted by this suspension) include departures in Singapore, Israel, and China.

Royal Caribbean has temporarily ceased the sale of new bookings for cruises longer than 7 nights between Jan. 1 and Nov. 1, 2021 pending further clarification from the CDC.

As we continue to evaluate our return to service landscape, we are exploring a variety of scenarios at-hand to establish our best path forward. With this in mind, the decision has been made to cancel the 2021 Quantum of the Seas Alaska season, as well as the surrounding Transpacific sailings - encompassing departures between April 25 through October 14, 2021. Instead, during this time, Quantum of the Seas will remain in the South Pacific region.
